Tsunami

a perfect moment, of love, hope, wishes and dreams, shattered into tiny pieces of fear, pain and worry. a perfect christmas, family time together, ruined by a force so much bigger than you or them.
‘can we go outside and watched the stars?’ we can tomorrow, a promise unknowingly that will be broken.
happiness suddenly disrupted by a solemn sadness.
a family separated,
a sudden gust of wind, a cut of power, the women notices, the others oblivious,
a sudden silence,
massive waves of destruction, screams of fear overpowered by the extreme sound of the dirty ocean,
darkness, underwater, confusion, thrown against the land, time and time again, by the intruder of water, of waves,
suddenly air, holding on, for life, for survival,
the ocean still flowing strongly around the woman, she screams and shouts with all the breath she has, she is alone, her family lost somewhere among the treacherous waters,
suddenly a boy’s cry, her child struggling against the waves, she lets go hoping to find her child and keep him safe,
her head bobs constantly from air to water, she screams out his name, using her only air, loosing sight of him as he floats further away, her vision clouded by tears, he holds on, but she injured by the impact is too far,
he doesn’t want to lose her, so launches himself towards her, they both grab a mattress, at either end, their hands reaching out to one another, not touching,
they hit a tree, each falling back into the water, she cannot see him, shouts out to him,
he surfaces, distant from his mother, turns to look for her, but suddenly sees the trees falling, uprooted by a second huge wave, heading straight towards them, destroying everything in its path,
he screams out, his mother shouts to him, ‘don’t go under’, she doesn’t want to lose sight of him again,
he gasps in one last breath and dives downwards, under the surface the turbulent waters, full of junk, are forced upon him, he struggles to stay upright, as the current confuses him,
suddenly air, calmer waters on the other side, the mother and son are reunited at last, they hold on to one another in love and hope, destruction all around them, they also worry and fear of what will happen next, lost in an ocean invading the land, with death and pain, they hope and prayer that peace will come soon.
